A Glimpse of Heaven on Earth
Today, in Matthew’s Gospel we hear the words that Jesus spoke at His sermon on the Mount. While many know at least
some of the words, we may not know the context in which they are spoken. Jesus uses the word “Blessed” eight times. The word
“Blessed” means something which not being promised but rather has already been given. Each of these statements tells us of something that God has already given us. Jesus is telling us that God has already heard and understood our needs and He is with us, now,
in answer to those needs. In other words, “The Kingdom of God” is at hand.
Perhaps, we should look as the Beatitudes as a kind of a roadmap and consider it as a path to the Kingdom of Heaven.
None of us could ever hope to achieve all that was stated by Jesus. It would be impossible. We can, however, look to them as goals
toward which we try to orient our lives. As we look at these “Beatitudes”, it seems we are seeing a glimpse of the Kingdom of Heaven.
A place that reveres the meek, the lonely, the hungry, the poor, the pure of heart, the peacemakers, the merciful, the persecuted, the
mourning and the poor in spirit. Jesus makes our search for those in our society that sit on the fringes or are outcasts a moral imperative in our lives. Nowhere does Jesus say that this will be easy but we are called just the same to do what He asks us to do.

Faith Formation at Good Shepherd Catholic Community
Faith Formation is at the heart of our mission at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, guiding individuals and families to deepen their relationship with Christ, grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith, and live as disciples in the world.
We offer a variety of programs and opportunities for parishioners of all ages to journey together in faith, from young children just beginning to explore their beliefs to adults seeking to enrich their spiritual lives.
Our Mission
The goal of Faith Formation is to nurture a lifelong love of God, a vibrant faith community, and a commitment to live out the Gospel in everyday life. Through teaching, prayer, and service, we seek to:
- Inspire Growth in Faith: Helping parishioners grow in their understanding of Catholic teachings and traditions.
