Welcome to the Good Shepherd Catholic Community, a parish family encompassing four historic worship sites, each with its unique heritage and spiritual significance.


St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – Moravia, NY
Location: 51 Grove Street, Moravia, NY
History: Established in 1872, St. Patrick’s began with Masses held in private homes before constructing its current building in 1884. The early parishioners of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Moravia, New York, were predominantly Irish immigrants who settled in the area during the 19th century. These settlers initially gathered for Mass in private homes before the church’s establishment in 1872. The community was described as a “working man’s parish,” indicating that many members were laborers or involved in local trades.
The  is a historic and modestly elegant structure, embodying the charm of small-town religious architecture. Built in 1884, the church features classic design elements typical of 19th-century ecclesiastical buildings, such as a gabled roof, stained glass windows, and a simple yet dignified interior. It is nestled in a quiet part of the village at 51 Grove Street and has served as a spiritual and community hub for over a century. The church reflects the resilience and faith of its founding Irish immigrant community, continuing to serve as a place of worship and fellowship within the Good Shepherd Catholic Community.


St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – Aurora, NY
Location: 303 Main Street, Aurora, NY
History: Dedicated in 1874 the church was constructed on land purchased from the prominent Morgan family, who sold it to the Catholic community for $1,000—a note that was quickly forgiven for $1—demonstrating the harmonious relationship between Aurora’s Catholic and Protestant residents  St. Patrick’s celebrated its 150th anniversary in August 2024. The milestone was marked by a Mass presided over by Bishop Salvatore R. Matano, followed by festivities that honored the church’s enduring legacy and vibrant community spirit.
The church’s design reflects the Italianate architectural style, a common choice for ecclesiastical buildings in the 19th century. Its location on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake provides a picturesque setting for worship and community gatherings. 
Throughout its history, St. Patrick’s has been more than just a place of worship; it has been a testament to the faith and dedication of its parishioners and a symbol of the collaborative spirit that defines Aurora. The church remains a vital part of the village’s cultural and spiritual landscape, honoring its rich heritage while looking forward to the future.


Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church – King Ferry, NY
Location: 8695 State Route 90, King Ferry, NY
History: Established in 1868, Our Lady of the Lake is the southernmost worship site in our community. Settled by farmers, the church reflects the humble and hardworking spirit of its founders. Its simple yet elegant architecture harmonizes with the rural landscape, embodying the faith and dedication of its parishioners.
Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, is a modest yet charming example of 19th-century ecclesiastical architecture. The church features a traditional rectangular nave with a gabled roof, complemented by a simple bell tower that adds to its quaint aesthetic. The exterior is adorned with classic white clapboard siding, reflecting the vernacular architectural styles prevalent in rural New York during that era.  Inside, the sanctuary is designed to foster a sense of community and reverence, with wooden pews arranged to face a modest altar. Natural light filters through clear glass windows, creating an atmosphere of warmth and simplicity that aligns with the church’s humble origins. Situated along State Route 90, the church’s unassuming design harmonizes with the pastoral landscape of King Ferry, embodying the spirit of the local community it has served for over a century. Its enduring presence stands as a testament to the faith and dedication of its parishioners throughout the years.


St. Michael’s Catholic Church – Union Springs, NY
Location: 162 Cayuga Street, Union Springs, NY
History: St. Michael’s has been a cornerstone of the Union Springs community, offering a place of worship and fellowship for generations. As part of the Good Shepherd Catholic Community, it continues to serve the faithful with regular Masses and spiritual guidance.
