Notes from Father Bill - 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time

As we come to the end of the month of June we are also coming to the close of the Fiscal Year for our parish. It will be a while before the books are closed for the year; when they are we will be presenting a parish financial report.

Posted by Fr. Bill on June 26, 2017

Our parish Financial Council has been working with David Zellinger, our Regional Financial Director, in finalizing a budget for the coming year that begins next Saturday, July first.  It has been our goal to submit a balanced budget for the net operating revenues and expenses.  Just like preparing a household budget there are always variable factors that can challenge or help the budget that is in place.  Whether we have a warm winter or a cold winter is one of these factors, as is the increase in insurance costs, or the unexpected maintenance costs that can arise.     After carefully looking at our revenue stream for the past few years, we are thankful that the level of giving has been maintained since you were asked to increase your weekly giving amount in 2014 right before I arrived here as pastor.  I thank you for your generous support.

To help us assure that we have a Net Operating budget for 2017/2018 I ask that you make an increase in your weekly giving if possible.  The budget is calling for a $180 increase in the parish weekly offering.  If each household is able to increase their weekly offering by $1.50 per week, or about the cost of a cup of coffee, we should reach the budgeted increase.  I know some of you might not be in a position to make and increase and others may be able to make a greater increase, but if we all work together I am sure the needs of the parish will be met.  Thank you again for your generosity.

Fuel Collection

Next weekend, July 1st and 2nd, there will be a special second collection to help with the upcoming winter fuel bills. The Finance Council has asked that such a collection be taken up twice each summer on the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends.  In your envelope packets you will find an envelope for Utility & Energy Cost.  We ask that you use this envelope for this special collection. If you do not receive envelopes or if you are a visitor or a summer parishioner we ask that you use the Fuel or Utility & Engery Costs envelopes that can be found in the pews.

With the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer many people will be going on vacations and taking advantage of the Summer months to re-energize. I myself and taking some vacation days this week through the Fourth of July. Father Roy Kiggins will be filling in for me, please welcome him to our parish.

The following is a rendition of the 23rd Psalm that challenges us to slow down and enjoy the moment. I share it with you for your reflection. May your summer truly be a joyful time for you and your families.  May you be refreshed and energized in this season.

God Bless you,

Father Bill

23rd Psalm

The Lord is my pacemaker, I shall not rush;

He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals,

He provides me with images of stillness, which restore my serenity;

He leads me in the ways of efficiency through calmness of mind, and His guidance is peace.

Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day,

I will not fret for His all importance will keep me in balance.

He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity, by anointing my mind with oils of tranquility.

My cup of joyous energy overflows.

Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours

for I shall walk in the pace of the Lord and dwell in His house forever.
