I always started out in the grocery department and I always seemed to end up working in the produce departments. When I was in high school my first job in produce was being assigned to make fruit baskets for Christmas. When I was ordained I began making fruit baskets at Christmas time with the youth of the parishes where I have served. This year will be my sixth year working with the youth of Good Shepherd Catholic Community making fruit baskets for Christmas. Every year we had made more baskets and have had more baskets donated! Last year we made over 300 baskets of which 155 baskets were donated! This year we will be making them again. You will find ian insert in this bulletin with information about this year’s Fruit Basket Project and an order form.. We will also be having Giving Trees again this year for Christmas gifts . Tags will be available in our churches for donated gifts.
I will be working with the Youth of GSCC making fruit baskets for Christmas. The youth will be selling three size baskets for: $10.00, $15.00, and $27.50. You may want to buy one for yourself or your family, or give one as a gift for that hard to buy for person. You may also wish to donate a basket. Donated baskets will be delivered to people in our parishes who are in hospitals, needy, or housebound. A donated basket would be a beautiful way to tell the sick, needy and housebound that the parish community cares for them. Orders will be taken for the Fruit Baskets in advance. Orders will be taken after the weekend Masses on Nov. 23/24 and Nov. 30 / Dec. 1 & Dec.7/8, or you can fill out the order form and return it in the Sunday collection or drop it off at the parish office. Order Forms can be found in the church vestibules and also on-line at the parish website. This project will be a fund raiser for our parish and will help support youth ministry. The money raised will be used to help pay for the youth retreats and workshops that are available for our young people through the Diocesan Youth Ministry. There will be two pick-up dates for orders this year. You can order your baskets for the weekend of December 14/15 or the weekend of December 21/22. Ordered baskets can be picked up at church after all the Masses on those weekends. Please consider supporting this worthwhile project, it benefits so many people of all ages. God bless you, Father Bill
