Feast of Christ the King

Today as we celebrate The Feast of Christ the King we enter into the last week of the church liturgical year. It is appropriate that we end the year on a note of thanksgiving. There are three community ecumenical Thanksgiving prayer services in our area this week at which we can give thanks to God for the blessings we have received. I encourage you to attend one.

Posted by Fr. Bill on November 18, 2015

The schedule can be found in this bulletin. We will also be have a Thanksgiving Day Mass for Good Shepherd Catholic Community on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Aurora.  Please bring a canned or dry food item to be donated to our local food pantry.   Thanksgiving Day this year is the fifth anniversary of my father’s death.  I will be remembering him and thanking God for the love he showed me when I celebrate the Mass.

Next Sunday the new liturgical year begins as we enter the Season of Advent. This year during Advent we also begin The Year of Mercy on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Advent is a time when we prepare for the celebration of the Birth of Our Savior and for His Second Coming.  One way to help us prepare is to be open to the gift of the mercy of God that is offered to us in the Sacrament of Penance.  This Advent I will be available for individual confessions at additional times than the usual schedule that is posted on the front page of the weekly bulletin.  Normally Confession times are held on the First Saturday of each month from 4:00p.m. -4:45p.m. at St. Michael Church, Union Springs.   Please Note:  On December 5th, the Vigil Mass will be at 4:00p.m. to accommodate the Village of Union Springs’ Christmas Party.   Confession times on Dec. 5th will be from 3:00p.m.- 3:45p.m..   I will also be available for Confession at the follow dates, times and places.

Bishop Salvatore Matano will be visiting our parish on December 6th, the Second Sunday of Advent, and will be presiding at the 12:15p.m. St. Patrick Church in Aurora.  All are invited to attend.  Bishop Matano will also be visiting us next Easter season on the fourth Sunday of Easter, which is often referred to as Good Shepherd Sunday.  He will be presiding at a special Mass for our parish that day at 10:00a.m., at St. Patrick in Moravia.  It will be a parish-wide celebration as the regular Sunday Masses will be cancelled on that day.  Hopefully all of you will have the opportunity to meet Bishop Matano at one of these celebrations.

Fruit Basket Project
I will be working with the Youth of GSCC making fruit baskets for Christmas. The youth will be selling three size baskets for: $10.00, $12.50, and $25.00. You may want to buy one for yourself or your family, or give one as a gift for that hard to buy for person. You may also wish to donate a basket. Donated baskets will be delivered to people in our parishes who are in hospitals, needy, or housebound. A donated basket would be a beautiful way to tell the sick, needy and housebound that the parish community cares for them. Orders will be taken for the Fruit Baskets in advance. Youth will be available after the weekend Masses on November 28/29 and December 5/6.  Or you can fill out the order form and return it in the Sunday collection or drop it off at the parish office. Order Forms can be found in the church vestibules and also on-line at the parish website.   This project will be a fund raiser for our parish and will help support youth ministry.  The money raised will be used to help pay for the youth retreats and workshops that are available for our young people through the Diocesan Youth Ministry Office..  There will be two pick-up dates for orders.  You can order your baskets for the weekend of December 12/13 or the weekend of December 19/20.   Ordered baskets can be picked up at church after all the Masses on those weekends.   Please consider supporting this worthwhile project, it benefits so many people of all ages.

                                                                                                 God bless you, Father Bill
