Christmas Mass Schedule and signup

As we continue to deal with the dangers of the spread of the coronavirus we are still limited as to how many people can safely gather in our churches while still practicing social distancing. We have not had any difficulty with the numbers that have been coming to our weekend Masses over the past few months, but Christmas Masses could increase our numbers attending. Therefore, for the Christmas Masses we are asking parishioners to register ahead of time in order to attend Christmas Mass. The schedule for the Christmas Masses is listed below. We will have three Masses on Christmas Eve and two Masses on Christmas Day. We will be taking reservations for 75 persons for each of the five Masses. If you will be attending Mass as a family when you register please indicate the number of family members you will be sitting with and their names.(place names in comments section of signup form) We will be assigning seats for these Masses so as to maximize seating capacity and still keep the proper space for social distancing. We are setting up on our parish website www.thegoodchepherd.cc a tool for signing-up for the Mass you want to attend. Please sign-up on–line at the parish signup page .

If you do not have the internet or an email address you can register by calling the Parish Office at 315-364-7177.  Since the Office is only open two days a week please leave a message and we will get back to you.  I know this procedure might be an inconvenience but it will enable us to safely gather for the celebration of the Birth of our Savior.  I realize that not everyone might be able to attend the Mass of their choice as we are limited in seating so I ask you to make an adjustment if necessary.   I thank you for your cooperation.

Parishioners have asked me if we will be going to a Winter Mass schedule this year.  The answer is no we will continue with the schedule for weekend Masses that we adopted after public Masses resumed in June; Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, Aurora, Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Moravia and 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church, King Ferry.

Thanksgiving Day Mass will be at 9:00 a.m. on November 26 at St. Patrick Church in Aurora.

Fruit Baskets   For nearly 40 years I have worked with the youth making Fruit Baskets at Christmas time in the parishes where I have served.  This year we will not be making Fruit Baskets as a precaution during this time of dealing with the spread of Cobvid-19. Hopefully we will again make them next year!  ( That is if these 70 year old bones hold up!)

Advent Prayer Books  During Advent we are called to prepare our hearts and minds to receive our Savior. Taking time for daily prayer and time to reflect on God’s Word in the scriptures can help us to be open to the love that God has in store for us. To assist you we will have available in our churches, besides the The WORD Among Us, that we have throughout the year, we will be offering The Magnificat Advent Companion.  Also, we will be giving each parishioner a copy of the missalette, Word & Song 2021. We have not had the missalettes available in the pews since we reopened the churches for public Masses and that will be our practice going forward.  The Missalettes we give you, we ask that you put your name on the copy you receive and take them home with you to use there. You can also bring them with you to Mass each week to use during Mass, but we ask that you do not leave your copy in the church, bring them back home with you each week. (This is the same practice that older parishioners might remember when we brought our St. Joseph missal with us to Mass each week.)

I thank God for the beautiful 70 degree days we have been having but regardless of what the weather brings have a blessed week.

Father Bill
