2020-2021 Catholic Ministry Appeal: “Christ Our Light"

Our Diocese of Rochester has launched the 2020-2021 Catholic Ministry Appeal. The theme of this year’s campaign is "Christ Our Light." Stewardship challenges us to recognize that each of us has received gifts from God – namely our time, talent, and treasure. God expects us to discern our gifts and to nurture them. We are called to share a portion of our gifts with our parish, our diocese, the universal church and our community. At this time of year, Catholics throughout the twelve counties that make up the Diocese of Rochester are asked through the CMA to share some of their financial resources to help the Church meet real needs. The money raised by this campaign is used to fund specific programs, services and ministries. These programs, services and ministries are usually diocesan-wide in scope and impact and they are beyond the ability of any one parish to fund. When you give to the Catholic Ministries Appeal your gift is joined with thousands of others to enable our diocesan community of faith to:

Posted on November 6, 2020

'
  • Fund ministries that nurture children and teenagers in the Catholic faith and teaches values they'll carry into adulthood.
  • Help pay for the proper education of our seminarians on the road to priestly ordination
  • Ensure we can help struggling families find their way through economic crisis and back to stability
  • Prepare engaged couples for God-centered marriages rooted in the Catholic Church
  • Educate and prepare those who wish to become Catholic for the fullness of life in the Church through RCIA
  • Enable us to promote Catholic values about the sanctity of all life and make our voice heard in society
  • Fund programs that give young adults on college campuses a connection to the Church.
  • Provide important services to your parish that it would find difficult to afford on its own
  • Support ministries that reach out with the hands and heart of Christ to the aged, the sick, and the imprisoned
  • Help fund the crucial work of Catholic Charities, which serves more than 250,000 people annually.

All funds raised in the CMA are used for programs, services and ministries. No gifts to the CMA will be used to satisfy legal fees or settlement cost associated with abuse..

Also, our parish office receives services from the diocesan offices of Human Resources, Financial Services, and Legal and Information Services. These offices might not seem to have much to do with ministry or in dealing with parishioners on a daily basis, but I assure you they are of vital importance in the everyday running of our parish.  All these and other diocesan offices are there to help our parish staff minister to you.

Every year each parish in the diocese is assigned a CMA goal.  Your gift to the CMA can help Good Shepherd Catholic Community reach our parish goal of $37,686.  I have already made my personal gift to the appeal and I sincerely hope that you will as well.  To help us reach our goal this year it is my hope that we can increase the number of households supporting the CMA.  If every household can give us their support I am confident we will achieve our parish goal. Remember the size of your gift is not what is important, your participation in giving to the CMA is what helps to make the difference and helps to insure the ongoing ministries of the Church.

Your gift to the CMA can be made directly by filling out the pledge card you received in the mail and mailing it directly to the Diocese.  You can also give on-line at the Diocesan: www.dor.org and make your gift for Good Shepherd Catholic Community,    Aurora (337). There you can also view a video about this year’s appeal and a FAQ about the CMA.

The Catholic Ministries Appeal helps to bring service and assistance to so many people throughout our diocese, but it takes the support of us all to make it possible. We are living through trying times but please prayerfully consider making your gift, whether large or small each gift is needed to help our diocese and parishes to continue to grow in faith and minister to God’s people.

God’s blessings and peace, Father Bill
