As Christ came "not to be served, but to serve" (Mark 10:45), so too our choirs at Mass are servants of the powerful expression of the Word throught the medium of beautiful music. Music plays an essential role in the liturgy. It leaves an indelible impression on the minds of all who take part in the worship.
At Our Lady of the Lake (King Ferry), the choir is quite flexible. There are usually no rehearsals, except for Easter and Christmas. Marcia Hagin is the "official organ player"; they really have no Director. Tom and Kelly Stiadle and Marcia's two daughters take turns singing the Responsorial Psalms and the Alleluia. They like to sing "familiar" songs, the better to encourage congregational participation. If you would like to join the choir at King Ferry, just visit Marcia at the keyboard before or after Mass.
At St. Patrick (Moravia), rehearsals are also few (Easter and Christmas). The music selections run the range from traditional Latin to contemporary Christian. The choir Director is Valerie Collins and her husband, Tom, is the organist. The choir sings from the choir loft in the rear of the church. At Moravia, they welcome any and all voices to join in the worship and praise. They also welcome those who play musical instruments. If you wish to join, "come on up"; there's a seat waiting for you!
